Welcome to Liping's home page!

Liping is an assistant professor of geographic information science (GIScience) and Computer Science, with a research focus on geospatial artificial intelligence (GeoAI) at the University of New Mexico (UNM). Liping directs the GeoAIR Lab (Geospatial Artificial Intelligence Research and Visualization Lab). Before joining UNM, Liping was a postdoctoral research associate in the Information Sciences group (CCS-3) of the Computer, Computational, and Statistical Sciences Division (CCS) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), focusing on computer vision and machine learning algorithm development for technical diagram image analysis. Prior to LANL, Liping was a postdoctoral researcher in the GeoVISTA Center, Department of Geography and affiliated with Institute for CyberScience, Pennsylvania State University, where Liping worked with Professor Alan MacEachren (Director of the GeoVISTA Center), and Professor Guido Cervone (Director of the Geoinformatics and Earth Observation Lab).

Passionate about data-driven and big data analytics research in Geographic Information Science (GIScience) and Data Science using data mining, computer vision, machine learning & deep learning, plus (geo) visual analytics. Liping's deep learning blog provides useful machine learning & deep learning resources for GIScience and Data Science.
